Batch Manufacturing with SAP MII Wiki

Welcome to the chemical industry wiki for batch manufacturing with SAP MII. This is the BPX for Chemicals WIKI for information on the preconfigured templates for SAP® Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (SAP MII) to support batch manufacturing.

Batch Manufacturing with SAP MII

SAP Delivers New Templates for Manufacturing Execution  (Links to SAP Newsbyte and Blog)
SAP delivers preconfigured, best practice templates for the SAP® Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (SAP MII) application to support manufacturing execution in batch manufacturing industries. The batch manufacturing with SAP MII templates are cost-free and extend the SAP MII architecture by providing prebuilt, plant and role-specific light-weight applications to support manufacturing preparation, execution, documentation and reporting.

The templates provide prebuilt processes, user interfaces and content for SAP MII, for the following plant-specific application areas:

  • Role-specific manufacturing operations cockpits, manufacturing order list, material identification
  • Work instructions, quality control, production confirmation
  • Shift book, monitoring and logging, and manufacturing performance.

A short overview of each application template is provides in the BPX childpage, Batch Manufacturing with SAP MII Templates.

The templates themselves, the configuration and database files, as well as the application and technical documentation guides are available for download in SAP Developer Network (SDN) in the software download area for manufaturing. Link to SDN Batch Manufacturing with SAP MII download page.

Successful co-innovation
Batch manufacturing with SAP MII is the result of a successful co-innovation project, leveraging the experience of SAP and partner experts for SAP MII, as well as customer and industry input. Trebing + Himstedt, Ciber, as well as Systec and Services - experienced implementation partners with proven, best practice solutions for SAP MII - joined together with SAP to develop and deliver this set of preconfigured, harmonized templates supporting manufacturing operations and performance reporting in batch manufacturing industries.

Sika AG, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals for construction and industry, is one of the forerunners to the batch manufacturing project, having defined and implemented SAP MII composites developed by SAP partner company Trebing + Himstedt with a new plant opened to increase production of its Sikaflex product. Sika successfully made productive use of SAP MII for manufacturing execution with functionality for order execution, while enjoying lower licenses and implementation costs in comparison to traditional manufacturing execution systems. The results of these developments and implementation, Ciber and Systec and Services customer implementations, as well as the input from numerous SAP customers and members of the Chemical SAP User Group (CISUG) and Verband der Chemischen Industrie (VCI), formed a central part of the new templates now delivered.

A "Smart" Approach for Manufacturing Execution
The batch manufacturing with SAP MII templates meet customer needs for an integrated, plant-specific solution for manufacturing. The "smart approach" of batch manufacturing with SAP MII delivers customers a lean solution for core manufacturing execution processes - with central, single data maintenance and seamless integration with ERP. Companies can thus leverage existing investments, avoid data duplication and profit from lower total cost of ownership and time-to-value.

Leveraging the SAP MII development infrastructure and pre-built, standards-compliant integration to SAP ERP and shop floor systems, the batch manufacturing with SAP MII templates integrate and synchronize manufacturing enterprise, operations and shop floor data. In this way, plants and the enterprise benefit from accurate, real-time visibility into manufacturing activities and performance to increase plant operational efficiency and reduce costs.

Furthermore, straight-forward, role-specific applications support efficient manufacturing preparation, execution, documentation and reporting. Delivering simplified user interfaces, preconfigured business processes and content, as well as a technical and application guide, the batch manufacturing with SAP MII templates are designed to reduce implementation cost, effort and risk.
