ACCOUNT ASSIGNMENT REFERENCE IS MISSING OR UNDETERMINED

Purpose

The purpose of this week is to present common reasons for the Account Assignment Reference (AAR) being missing or not determined.

Overview

After describing AAR, we go through three main reasons for AAR being missing or undetermined: when Valuation Area does nto post to FI, when Valuation Currency is different from Company Code currency or when Update Types are not posting relevant. Finally, an workaround to specify an AAR is suggested.

What is the Account Assignment Reference for?

You can use the account assignment reference to determine the FI G/L account in which the position is to be managed. You can make this assignment of G/L accounts to account assignment references in the IMG activity Define Account Determination. This is achieved by making the assignment of G/L accounts dependent on the account assignment reference in Financial Accounting for the corresponding account symbols (position and interest/dividends received).

You create the account assignment references independent of the valuation areas. You can have the account assignment references assigned to positions based on the valuation area and/or you control the account determination based on valuation area and account assignment reference.

This characteristic is only displayed for the validity area of the architecture of the parallel valuation areas. That means that this characteristic is empty for the loans (CML) operative area (valuation area 001 in integrated reporting).

The customize AAR, follow the below path according to TRM area (OTC Transactions, Securities/Listed Derivatives, Loans)

Common reasons for Account Assignment Reference being missing or undetermined:

  • Valuation Area does not post to FI

The system only determines or stores the AAR only if the flows should be posted to FI. To check that, refer to following customizing:

-Financial Supply Chain Management

   -Treasury and Risk Management

      -Transaction Manager

         -General Settings

            -Accounting

               -Organization

-Assign Accounting Codes and Valuation Areas

Double click the corresponding line for the Accounting Code/Valuation Area combination.

Under Data Transfer to Accounting, the field Posting must have the value “Post to FI” assigned to it.

  • Valuation Currency differs from Local Currency

Posting to FI is not possible when the Valuation Area currency is not the same as Company Code currency. To check that, refer to following customizing:

-Financial Supply Chain Management

   -Treasury and Risk Management

      -Transaction Manager

         -General Settings

            -Accounting

               -Organization

-Assign Accounting Codes and Valuation Areas

To check company code currency, access transaction OBY6 and refer to column "Crcy" for the respective Company Code

  • None of Update Types are posting relevant

For the deal with missing AAR, at least one of its Update Types must be posting relevant. To check that, refer to following customizing:

-Financial Supply Chain Management

   -Treasury and Risk Management

      -Transaction Manager

         -General Settings

            -Accounting

               -Link to Other Accounting Components

-Indicate Update Type as Relevant to Posting

The flag “Rel” must be checked for at least one of the Update Types used in the deal

  • Workaround

You can use transaction TPM3 to manually assign or edit an AAR to a deal.
