Why Social Networks Matter
Social Networking is more than just finding old friends, tagging photos, sharing home movies and more than just facebook. Social Media breaks down boundaries of time and space and allows collaboration to happen between you and anyone else in the world--and in real time! Linkedin, Flickr, Youtube, Twitter, SAP Community Network (just to name a few)...think of the relationshpis you have created so far and reflect on the vast amount of information you have learned in the process. And this is just the beginning.
Experts and professionals are just beginning to learn the true power and influence that is being created across the internet through social networks. We are involed for social purposes but many companies have adopted social networking practices for real business value too. So we've created this page to help you - our community members - participate in joint projects, discuss the implications of social networking, and learn from one another. Let's share what we find and grow together.
Please add content you think would be insightful, useful, or just plain fascinating! Be sure to date it so we know that you have shared some of the most recent information.

One of the common misconception that companies have is the Social media is a sales tool and start posting discounts and sales messages on the Social media platforms. Companies that deal with low ticket items like shoes, clothes etc might get away with it but for people who follow the companies, these messages of promotion and sales is a turn off, they then start treating it like a junk mail i.e. either ignore it or unsubscribe.
The problem here is that the company has lost one of its audience, who might tweet or update the status message about the negative experience and then the word spreads to a few more.
It is important to plan and strategize a theme or campaign before getting on these platforms.
