How is this license in comparison to other licenses?

Hi,

The "NetWeaver License for Non Partners" is (more or less) exactly, what I have been waiting for for quite a long time, and even more for a concrete request to be realized in the next months.

However, I have some questions:

1. "€1,100 for the first user, €2,100 for additional user, plus support ":
   1. I would have expected it to be "2,100 € for the first user, and 1,100 € for each additional user". Is this a typo or why does it SAP that way?
   2. Just to make sure: the "plus support" is the "Maintenance and Support" fee of 22% mentioned below, isn't it?
2. " No Test & Demo license included":
   1. For "commercializing", being able to demonstrate it on my system, before the customer wants to have it imported into his much more precarious system, is not unimportant. Why does SAP not allow this?
   2. What is exactly meant with "No Test license"? While developing, I also "test" it, so what does SAP not allow here? Would I then need to install an additional Trial & Evaluation system to "test"?
3. "ABAP Namespace": Does this mean that I can get a namespace /XYZ0/ for the programs etc. which I then can sell to my customers?
4. I guess, SAP will try to limit such small installations to frequently used OSes which cause no problems, in order to avoid at least error reports in this aspect:
   1. Does somebody already know on what OSes this Netweaver installation will be supported? Or is it the same like for the "Technology Preview SAP NetWeaver 04s - SAP Web Application Server on Linux" (although those I found are little bit outdated)? Or just the normal support restrictions mentioned in diverse notes?
   2. Does somebody already know the version and requirements in general, or when these will be published? I am asking because I have already been gathering the requirements for hardware and software (OS, virtualizing) for a MiniSAP and want to buy it in the next weeks.

An additional question:

5. What about the "Support user" for SAP when they log in for analyzing a problem? (This user is not like a fixed user name like SAP* or DDIC, but paying for it like an additional user would also be not appropriate in my view. So how can/will SAP make sure that this is only used for their support purposes?)

 I'm interested for SAP Community Developer Edition or NetWeaver License for Non Partners (in this case in order to have PI)

1) About the "Application Server (Java)", is it possibile to have the 64bit version ? at this time I'm able to download only 32 bit (SAP Community Developer Edition). I need to use 64 bit because I have a very big j2ee application and I just test with a trial edition that it is not possible to deploy it on 32 bit env..

2) what is "Test with Enterprise Services from SAP" ? Why is it available for Community edition, but not for NetWeaver License for Non Partners  ? is it a mistake in the chart ?

 I concur that this is a very welcome licensing model and I predict it will spur a lot of entrepreneurialism in the SAP development space.  I have a few questions to add to those above:

 1) will the licensee get an SAP customer number?  If the licensee later purchases a full license (e.g. to develop enhancements for ECC or CRM), will the same customer number be used, in order to to maintain the same namespace

 2a) will a licensee require a Solution Manager to download patches?  

2b) Will the Solution Manager license be included with the Developer License for Non-Partners?

3) can the licensee choose their own namespace (as with normal production licenses) or will a namespace be randomly generated?  This is relevant for branding purposes.

4) is there a mailing list we can join to be notified as soon as this is available? We have an immediate need for this already!

I would kindly like to ask, if my and all the others' comments/questions are being read and will be answered some time in the future, as absolutely no reaction has been shown at least to me for more than a month?

I think, all the questions make sense and would be worth to be taken into account before finalizing this license type in a few weeks. So if nobody has noticed these questions, I would try to contact the moderator of this wiki page to make sure that the questions are at least read.

Erlend I completly agree with your points here, I have made similar experiences when trying to ask SAP directly about these licenses: A nightmare, nobody seems really to know nor to care...

At  least after several mails and calls I got this:

"Thank you for your interest with the new license "NetWeaver License for Non Partners"
We are still looking at how we are going to position the new license and we will not be able to answer your question till the license is made available.
We are sorry to inform you that we currently do not know the date when the license will be available. "

SAP licensing fiasco is becoming a legend in it own time. 

Hopefully, they figure out the licensing soon, which to date is inconsistent, unpredictable and unproven in the SDN member space.

Unlike a Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchise which it predictable, consistent and proven in the market.

It remains to be seen if we get the promised delivery by "End Q1/2010" in order to acquire the s/w for developing commercial applications. 

 SAP dragging their feet on the licensing, actually hurts my clients since I don't recommend solutions for their problems because I cannot commercialize it and sell it to my client. Thus, although I see the process/system flaws/gaps -  I actually do nothing, I move on to the next project/client. The client eventually blames the SAP system for the inefficiencies.  An unfortunate reality. This reduces the fun and revenue generation factor from trying to build up a decent client base and growing ones own SAP practice.

A: This license has been postponed and there is no launch date available.  

I'm glad my consulting/development company did not wait for the developer license to become available.  We purchased the cheapest possible All-In-One license through a channel partner, which gives you a real customer license for ECC and Solution Manager (but I'll warn you it was significantly more expensive than the proposed developer license for nonpartners).  Anyone who wants to know more about this approach is free to contact me and I can put you in touch with my channel partner.

Hi,  Im looking for help from anyone who can place a comment on this site. I have been an ABAP developer for 10 years but  I am a Dummy in terms of using SAP software download and install and would appreicate some info/help.  I am using an 'S' number id I obtained as a result of taking a certification course in ABAP Development.

I tried to download from SDN 'SAP NetWeaver 7.01 SR1 SP3 ABAP Developer Edition' but get the error msg: 'Unfortunately we have trouble completing your download request. Please contact sdn@sap.com for further support'.  I have contacted them more than once, but never received an answer, even after I try a follow up email.  Does anyone know if this software  item is available??  I thought the problem might be my internet secuity, so I disabled everything.  Still no download.

 I see mention of a individual license for development, but can not find any procedure to get on a list for that.  Does that license come with SDN resistration automatically??  Could this be the reason I get the error message???

2. What happened to the "NetWeaver License for Non Partners"?
3. Former SDN Subscription holders got a license purchase offer, how is this related?

Hi All,

As at July 2012 there is no "Developer License" to be found on offer from SAP.

You can download the "Developer Edition Software" but you will still have to use the "minisap" process to re-register and extend the current system license every 3 months.

This approach was identified in a forum thread and has proven to be true over the last 9 months for the SAP Netweaver BW Developer software.
